Strong teeth and gums are crucial for overall health, and Lake County understands this importance by providing dental insurance for you and your family. Our dental plan, managed by Delta Dental, offers access to a wide network of providers to ensure you receive the best care possible.

Vision

Having regular eye exams is crucial for your overall health and well-being. That's why Lake County provides vision insurance for qualified employees and their families through VSP. This benefit allows individuals to access necessary eye care services and maintain good vision health.

Employee Wellness

Lake County emanates an atmosphere of well-being, providing an opportunity to enhance your health journey. Our transformative wellness program with Empower focuses on uplifting your spirits and honing the art of making wholesome choices. At the Health Department, this includes the opportunity to receive, at no charge, annual flu, and Hepatitis B vaccinations and Tuberculosis (TB) testing.

Additionally, our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides free, confidential assistance and referrals for a wide range of personal and family issues. This includes emotional support, work and lifestyle support, legal guidance, financial resources, well-being support, interactive digital tools, and digital support.

Paid Time Off

We understand that a healthy work-life balance is essential to employee satisfaction and productivity. We offer ample paid holidays, vacation time, sick and personal leave.

Vacation & Holidays

14 paid holidays per year (10 fixed holidays & 4 floating holidays) and 2 Weeks paid vacation (with increases based on seniority).

Paid Sick & Personal Leave

12 Paid Sick Days Annually (one sick day for each month worked) and 3 days of personal leave each year to use at their discretion (pro-rated based on date of hire).

Paid Parental Leave

For eligible employees, Lake County will provide up to 6 weeks of paid parental leave to employees following the birth of an employee’s child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption, legal guardianship, or foster care.

Lake County cares about your future financial security. We offer outstanding options for you to save for retirement, obtain life insurance, and save for your children’s college education.

IMRF Pension Plan: Eligible Lake County employees who work at least 19.2 hours a week are automatically enrolled in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), the second largest fully-funded pension system in Illinois. Most county employees participate in the regular IMRF plan. In return, IMRF provides retirement, disability and death benefits for Lake County employees. See www.imrf.org for more details.

Retirement Savings Plan: Lake County employees also have the option of participating in a voluntary Deferred Compensation (457) plan administered by MissionSquare.

Life Insurance: All full-time regular employees automatically receive life insurance equal to the amount of their annual salary, and may choose to purchase additional coverage for themselves, their spouse, and their dependent children. All IMRF-eligible employees may also purchase voluntary life insurance through the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems.

Student Loan Repayment Options

As a government entity and federally qualified health center, many of our employees are eligible for student loan forgiveness through the following programs.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Community Behavioral Health Care Professional Loan Repayment Program

National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program

Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program

The information provided is an overview of the Lake County Health Department’s benefit package which is available to full-time Health Department employees. Part-time employees (20+ hours) may be eligible on a pro-rated basis for the benefits listed. At this time, temporary and flex employees are not eligible for benefits.
